Châtel is one of the 12 resorts that join to make the Portes du Soleil, the largest linked ski area in the world. You can ski in France in the morning and Switzerland in the afternoon. Visit all 12 resorts including the picturesque Morzine, the quiet and peaceful Morgins with it's breath taking views of the Dents du Midi, Avoriaz which is purpose built to blend in with the mountain side on which it stands or the lesser known Champery and Les Crosets with their quiet, wide open ski runs. These totally unique resorts link together to form the P.D.S. with over 650kms of piste, 220 lifts, famous snow parks and 100's of fabulous slope side restaurants.

To top it all you only use one lift pass and don't even need to take it out of your pocket!

Châtel is the most Swiss-like of all the French resorts, whose combination of tradition and modernism welcomes you in an exceptional setting. Situated at the end of the picturesque and rural Abondance valley, easily accessible from Geneva and the motorway system.

Just a stone's throw from the Swiss border, set between Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc, Châtel is a charming haut-savoyard village that has remained true to its traditions. The resort's hotels and restaurants offer locally inspired cuisine (such as Berthoud, fondue, potée) as well as inventive and authentic mountain cooking.

There are 38 working farms which contribute to the village's economic development and make Châtel an authentic mountain village, which has gradually expanded while still respecting the environment. The hotels, residences and large wood and stone chalets have been built in complete harmony with the mountain style.

Châtels geographical location, in the most northern part of the French Alps, combined with the effects of Lake Geneva, produce a microclimate which ensures optimal snowfall throughout the winter. Nevertheless, to contend with the weathers unpredictable nature and to guarantee snow in certain areas, Châtel has invested in artificial snow-making machines and today has over 54 snow canons.

Châtel has a good selection of bars and restaurants and a good après ski atmosphere. Bowling, cinema, indoor pool, fitness room/gym, parapenting, shops, ice skating, snow shoeing, outdoor heated pool, walking trails.

The really brave can try the Fantasticable and fly 1200 metres at almost 100km/h harnessed to a cable.
